LYRICS
The lack of luster is all that remains,
It melted away, when you spoke the wrong name,
There is no way it could happen like this,
There is no way there could be someone else,
What made you think I wouldn’t find out ...
Am I alive anymore, tell them you forgot about me ...
Flatlined on the floor, tell them you forgot about me ...
I am so certain it’s harder to breathe,
The lights getting dim I can’t feel anything,
Am I alive anymore, tell them you forgot about me ...
Suddenly, I stand second in line,
Patients, was never a virtue of mine,
There is no way to be wiped from the books,
There is no way there could be someone else,
What made you think I wouldn’t find out ...
Am I alive anymore, tell them you forgot about me ...
Flatlined on the floor, tell them you forgot about me ...
I am so certain it’s harder to breathe,
The lights getting dim I can’t feel anything,
Am I alive anymore, tell them you forgot about me ...
What could be done, I'm nothing to you, and all I have left is to go,
Say you need space, but both of us know, space is the end of it all,
There was a time you’d do anything for me, if only I gave the word,
Being replaced, being left behind, all I want to know is ...
NARRATIVE MUSIC VIDEO
BEHIND THE SONG
There are people in my life that struggle with addiction. They all have their moments. Highs when everything seems fine, but then … there’s the lows. The moments where their weakness becomes undeniable, and it’s crushing to watch them struggle.
When writing this song, I tried to put myself in their shoes. Trying to understand why they think there is nowhere else to turn. The feeling of dependency on a substance, instead of a person who cares. And despite knowing the consequences of abuse, still making that choice over getting real help.
It’s a "crutch", propping them up. Keeping them from facing their real problems. And the effect it has on them and others in their life, weighs on my conscience.
